OU, O-State, West Virginia Players Win Big 12 Weekly Baseball Awards

Oklahoma State outfielder/catcher Gage Green, West Virginia starting pitcher Harrison Musgrave and Hector Lorenzana, second baseman for Oklahoma, were named Player, Pitcher and Newcomer of the Week, respectively, in the Big 12 for the week of May 6-12.

Green went seven for 10 hitting as Oklahoma State won two of the three games with Bedlam rival Oklahoma over the weekend. His weekend stat line included two doubles, three RBI and three runs scored and a .900 slugging percentage for the weekend of work. The sophomore played catcher on Friday night and left field in the final two games of the series. He scored the winning run Friday in a 4-3 Cowboy victory over the Sooners.

Musgrave, a sophomore left-hander, threw a complete-game shutout over visiting TCU on Friday for the Mountaineers lone win of the series. He struck out a career-high 14 batters, giving up just three hits. One hundred four of his 143 pitches went for strickes. Musgrave is one of four Big 12 pitchers with 8 wins this season. He owns a 2.43 ERA in 13 starts this year, with three complete games.

This is the fourth time this season Musgrave has won the weekly pitching honor. That’s the most individual weekly awards for any player in the conference this season.

Oklahoma scored 11 runs total in winning just one of three games over the weekend against Oklahoma State, and Lorenzana scored eight of them. Lorenzana’s three-run home run blast in Game scored all three Sooner runs for the night. The junior transfer from Howard (Texas) College was five for 11 for the series, scoring three times and driving in six.
