Six football players from the Big 12 are among 150 college football players from across the country who have been nominated to the American Football Coaches Association Good Works Team for 2013.
Nominees from the Big 12 are quarterback Bryce Petty of Baylor, punter Kirby Van Der Kamp of Iowa State, Kansas State wide-receiver and kick-return specialist Tyler Lockett, Oklahoma center Gabe Ikard, Texas defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat and defensive end Will Clarke of West Virginia.
Sponsored for the fifth consecutive year by the Allstate Insurance Co., the Good Works Team is made up of college football players who make a impact not only on the football field but in their communities. Nominees have demonstrated their compassion and desire to help 0thers through natural disaster relief efforts, volunteering and other community service activities.
Forty-one Big 12 football players have been named to the AFCA Good Works Team in the past. Quarterback Collin Klein of Kansas State was named to the Good Works Team last season.
The final roster of 22 student athletes will be announced in September.
