OU’s Mac James Named National Hitter Of The Week

Oklahoma catcher/first baseman Mac James has been named the National Hitter of the Week by the National College Baseball Writers Association.

For the week ending March 9, James had 13 hits in 19 at bats for an average of .684. His 13 hits resulted in six runs scored and six batted in, and he lengthened his hitting streak to eight consecutive games (that streak is now nine games; James had a first-inning single on Tuesday in an OU win over the University of Texas-Arlington).

James drove in three runs in the first-game of a home doubleheader with Rutgers  last Friday and also added a walk in a 7-5 Oklahoma win. The Sooner catcher played first base in the second game, going two-for-three with a double, an RBI and a run scored in an OU doubleheader sweep. In a single game on Sunday, he went four for four for the second time this season, including a game-tying home run.. The Sooners dropped the series finale, but were 4-1 for the week, improving their season record to 11-5.

For the weekend, James’ stat line read 9 for 12 at the plate for a three-game average of .750. For the week, his slugging average was 1.000 and he posted an on-base percentage of .714.
