Three players from the Big 12 Conference will participate in the TD Ameritrade College Home Run Derby at the site of the College World Series in Omaha on Wednesday.
Hunter. a left-handed hitter, plays left field at Oklahoma. The sophomore slugged six home runs for the Sooners in 2014 and drove in 34 runs with a batting average of .294.
Gutierrez enjoyed a career season for Texas Tech this past season. The first baseman hit .302 for the season, second best on the team, and belted a league-leading 12 home runs along with 58 RBI. He had a slugging percentage of .539. Gutierrez was an All-Big 12 First Team selection and helped his team to a 48-win season and its first-ever trip to the College World Series.
Texas’ Barerra is the youngest of the Big 12 trio who will compere in the Home Run Derby. The freshman catcher cleared the fences five times for the Longhorns in 2014 and also contributed 13 doubles and 35 RBI for the season.
This will be the fifth year for the College Home Run Derby. The contest will air live on ESPN beginning at 7:30 p.m. CT on Wednesday.
