TCU Basketball Makes Assistant Coaching Changes

In an effort to change up some things and improve TCU’s changes of moving upward in the Big 12 basketball standings, head coach Trent Johnson has shuffled things around on his coaching staff.

Johnson recently promoted Cliff Tifft to the position of assistant coach, and he brought in two new assistants. Tifft served two seasons as TCU’s director of basketball operations. Before that he spent eight seasons as a head coach in the junior college ranks. Tifft worked for Johnson previously, from 1999 to 2001,  when the current TCU head coach was in a similar capacity at the University of Nevada.

Matt Read will take over Tifft’s post as director of basketball operations. Read comes to Ft. Worth after serving last season in the same position at the University of Houston. Read was a former NJCAA All-American while at Collin (Texas) College. He spent the 2009-10 season playing at the University of Utah.

Robert Wright joins the Horned Frogs’ coaching staff as director of high school relations. Wright is a former coach at Dallas Carter High School, where he compiled a record of 122-19 and coached his teams there to three consecutive regional finals. He also spent time at George Washington University and at the University of Texas.
